Website development

www.uha.london

UHA is an international architecture and design studio based in London, managing projects across the Americas, Asia and Europe. Established in 2011 by Jonas Upton-Hansen, the firm initially focused on the luxury residential market in London, but grew rapidly to take on larger projects both in Europe and Asia, with a particular emphasis on high rise structures as well as large scale mixed use developments.

UHA’s core design and management team of 30+ architects and designers is based in central London, with a satellite office in Mumbai and representation in Moscow and Mexico City overseeing significant projects in each locale.

Brief

UHA's previous website (also built by Steve) was designed to work as a presentation tool on tablet devices and it served them very well for a few years. As the company grew and their portfolio expanded, the website struggled with both performance and usability issues.

UHA decided to take on the design of the site themselves and asked us to build it using our CMS, which they were already familiar with. The new design was a minimal approach, using the project images as the focus and allowing for more information.

Solution

There were two main challenges here: implementing full screen images without compromising performance, and allowing custom layouts on each project page.

The large images use screen size detection to resize the images on the fly, then save them for future visits to the site. This way, the image is only uploaded once, but the user will see the best size for their device.

We built the project pages using a 'modular' approach. Each section on the page is set up in the CMS using predefined options for layout and style. This allows UHA to set up each project with a unique layout based on the content available.

Result

The final website is straightforward, clean and easy to use and it looks great on any device, from large monitors to small mobiles. The beautiful mix of photography and 3D renders that UHA produce are easily showcased and there is plenty of room for expansion should it be required in the future.
